Veganuary 2025: Tips From a Vegan

David Beaver

Can you believe it? We’re already a few days into 2025! Time is flying, and I’ve spent a good chunk of it still making my way through the (seemingly never-ending) Christmas vegan cheeseboard.

I hope your year’s off to a strong start, and if you’re taking on Veganuary 2025, I truly hope you're enjoying it! But if it's not all oat milk lattes and smooth sailing, don’t worry – I’ve got your back. Having been vegan for four years now, I’ve been through the highs and lows, so I know exactly where you’re coming from. Here are some of my best tips for sticking to your pledge – and maybe even having a bit of fun with it!

1. Explore Vegan Restaurants

When I first went vegan, one of the hardest things was visiting my favourite restaurants and realising I couldn’t have my usual dishes. But then I discovered the wonderful world of vegan restaurants, where plant-based meals are the star of the show, not an afterthought. If you’re craving some inspiration, our vegan restaurant guide is full of options – from Michelin star vegan menus in the UK to the best vegan takeaways. We’ve also put together lists for most major cities across the UK, so there’s something for everyone!

2. Try Different Vegan Milk Alternatives

To all the caffeine lovers out there, I see you. If you’re missing your milky lattes, don’t fret – there’s a plant-based milk out there for every preference. It may take a little trial and error to find your favourite, but trust me, it's worth it. We've rounded up some of the best vegan milk alternatives based on taste, value, and availability. My personal fave? Minor Figures – it’s a game-changer.

3. Don't Expect Vegan Cheese to Be the Same as Dairy Cheese

Okay, let’s be honest – vegan mozzarella cheese isn’t quite the same as the real thing. There are definitely some, shall we say, interesting options out there. But don’t give up just yet – there are some genuinely tasty vegan cheeses on supermarket shelves these days. Honestly Tasty’s range is fantastic, and there are plenty of other brands worth trying. If you’re feeling adventurous, Rishma's got a bunch of brilliant recipes with zero coconut involved, including the perfect vegan cheese sauce and vegan mac and cheese.

4. You Might Already Be Eating Vegan (Without Realising)

No, seriously! From biscuits to crisps to sweets, loads of your favourite snacks might already be vegan, without you even knowing. There are a fair few instagram accounts that are a lifesaver for keeping track of all the ‘accidentally’ vegan products in the UK. It’s always nice to find out your go-to treats are already plant-based!

5. Get Creative in the Kitchen

When you’re trying something new like Veganuary, it’s easy to focus on what you can’t have. But why not switch gears and get excited about what you can have? This is the perfect time to experiment with new flavours, ingredients, and textures. We’ve got tons of vegan recipes on our blog, from quick weeknight dinners to easy lunches and snacks for that 3pm slump. There’s something for every craving!

6. Take a Night Off (We’ve Got You)

Sometimes, the last thing you want to do after a busy day is read another food label. So, why not take a night off? Let our chefs do the hard work with our delicious, nutritious plant-based meals delivered straight to your door. Not sure where to start?
