As we head out of January and into the second month of 2021 it's time to kick on and build on those new years resolutions. Whether you've made the choice to integrate more plants in to your diet or wanted to exercise a bit more we want the Root Tribe to work together and support each other achieve our fitness goals.
One of the groups that struggles to go plant-based or vegan, due to their usual training routines, are gym bunnies or those training for an event such as a marathon. Yet as we educate ourselves, it appears that our preconceptions what could be challenges for us when we adopt plant-based diet—like how to get enough protein —aren't actually an obstacle at all.
If, like us, you have watched the excellent Netflix documentary, The Game Changers, which profiles elite plant-based athletes across a range of sports from Tennis players such as Novak Djokovic and Venus Williams through to Olympians, and Strongman world record holders you will be well aware of the physiological benefits that adopting a plant-based diet has on sporting performance, including shorter recovery time and increased aerobic capacity allowing athletes to stay at the top of their game.
So if you’ve been thinking about your nutritional needs to fuel your training for the next few months and you want to bring your fitness and health to the next level, whilst the gyms are still in lockdown, we've come up with a series of little fitness challenges to keep you on course, whether your goal is to lose weight, tone up, build muscle or even just to keep yourself moving.
This is our Start Strong, home edition training plan, let us know how you get on!
1. 5k Run/Walk logged via the Strava app
2. Drink 2L of water per day
3. Complete a a Zoom/Youtube Yoga or Pilates class
4. Complete two at home workouts per week for the next 4 weeks
5. Complete 100 reps of a chosen bodyweight exercise per week
6. Complete 8000 steps per day
7. Tag us in a sweaty selfie after any exercise session using the hashtag #roottribe
